PoweredbyData goes to Washington
Last week we had the opportunity to present PoweredbyData to to two gatherings in Washington, DC. The meeting with the Aspen Institute's Nonprofit Data Project was the reason for the trip. We presented the organization, mission and our principal projects to the participants of the group, which included representatives from GuideStar, the National Center for Charitable Statistics at the Urban Institute, and the Foundation Center. The second presentation was a brown bag lunch at the Open Gov Hub, one of the physical centers of the open data community in the world. Attendees to that presentation included staff from the Sunlight Foundation, the World Bank's open data initiative, the Gates Foundation Charitable Sector Support Intiative, and Development Gateway.
The trip was a great chance to receive feedback from various experts in the fields of open data and non-profit data. We couldn't have been happier with the response to both our DRSI initiative and the RegulatorRegulator. There was a lot of great discussion and we detected a tiny bit of jealousy for the fact that we don't have to digitize charities' tax filings (because the Canada Revenue Agency takes care of it). Now we're just looking forward to our next trip down.
