Increasing access to data about, and for, the social sector.
Through research and movement-building, we support the development of data policies that increase the social sector's capacity to access and use data in effective ways. Our key areas of focus include policy work around administrative data-sharing in Canada's social sector, and our long-standing work on increasing the availability of data for the sector through open data policies.
A lot of information about the Canadian nonprofit sector is already tracked and collected, but historically, has not been made publicly available. Our work at Powered by Data involves identifying key datasets about the sector, and supporting their release as open data.
Sharing and linking administrative data can provide rich information about communities and the services they use. In Canada, there has been no coordinated policy agenda for increasing social impact through administrative data use. We're building a civil society coalition that will co-create one!
